Beginning

Kuruvakka started a few years ago. Origins of this brand is a design project that eventually lead to the creations of this brand and this web shop.

One day, one mechanical designer decided to see how a watch would look like with a specific concept in mind. This was out of the ordinary, but the challenge to see what could come out of this idea was too tempting. The journey that started from this has had many downs on the way. There was a moment when it was borderline decided that this was not going to happen.

But! There were still some hope and eventually ups started to happen! And finally with the help of never ending optimism and patience, we were holding in our hands a highly assuring prototypes. Success! From there on the project started to form into a whole brand.

Whew! All in all this project has been a roller coaster of creation that I would have never anticipated! The feeling of satisfaction when the product did finally come out exactly as shiny and nice as I wanted, cannot be described. 

The creation concept

The idea is to design watches with a specific abstract in mind. How would a watch look like when...? How an atypically abstract idea, concept would look like in a shape and specifications of a watch? Maybe this seems odd or too simple idea to get excited, but there is more to it, the longer you think about it. Only imagination (and size of the wrist) limits what can you create with this concept.

Available watches are the end result of these ideas.

Mechanical watch do not have batteries or other harmful chemicals or electronics. It will also last a lifetime if maintained appropriately.

The first collection is the RAE -collection 

It is common to buy a wristwatch as a gift. Graduation, wedding, birthday… So, it is
typical to buy a wristwatch to celebrate some bigger occasion. The watch then reminds the wearer intentionally and unintentionally of this event. A watch reminds you about an event, thing, things…
An idea came…

How about you would design a watch that would remind you about by something atypically abstract? Specifically the watch would be designed with an idea, feeling or some other abstract concept in mind... Watches are made to honor various things and in memory of something and so forth, but how about you would put nothing but an emotional or an intellectual state into a form of a wristwatch? 

RAE-3 -watch is designed with a concept in mind that you can, you are able to achieve, able to do something significant by yourself! Every noteworthy project is full of tasks to conquer but nevertheless you must tackle them whatever they are. The abstract motivation, feeling or set of something that gives you the energy to push through all these things, is the abstract that I decided to see how it would look like in a form of a watch. Said just in few words, the watch should be in the physical form of "I can, I am able".

So… How would this, what I described, would look like in a watch?! RAE-3 is one of the end results of this process.
